Como mover a atividade do Bluetooth para um serviço

O aplicativo oferece aos usuários 2 opções de conexão, USB e Bluetooth. USB funciona bem. Obtive exemplos de códigos para conexão Bluetooth, no entanto, eles foram projetados para funcionar como atividade. Eu tentei fazê-lo em um serviço, mas falhei.

Preciso estabelecer comunicação Bluetooth com um dispositivo que já está emparelhado e seu endereço MAC é conhecido. Para que eu possa pular as fases de descoberta e emparelhamento. O dispositivo que estou tentando conectar é sempre detectável e aguarda conexão. Existe uma maneira de fazer isso a partir de uma classe de serviço e manter essa conexão através de outras atividades?
